At Hansel & Gretel we take great pride in the work our dedicated staff of teachers have done to make the early childhood centers educational and nurturing environments for our children. We welcome the opportunity for you to schedule a time to meet our teachers in-person.
Walnut Street Location
Laura Grill is the Director of the Walnut Street location. Originally hired in 1978 as a teacher in the elementary education sector of the program, and was later promoted to the position of Center Director. Mrs. Grill holds a B.S. in Elementary Education/Early Childhood from Millersville University and a M.S. in Teaching and Curriculum from Penn State University. She has a husband, Max, and two grown children – Max and Ryan. Nothing thrills Laura more than coming to work each morning and seeing the faces of the children in our program. She believes they are our future and the reason we are here!
Stephanie Bowersox is the Assistant Director of our Walnut Street location. She has been a strong force in the Hansel and Gretel program for 21 years and has worked with children of all ages during this time. Stephanie is very passionate about her job and the children in our center. They are “like her own children”. Stephanie studied Child Care in High School in Altoona, PA and completed some college credits and received her Child Development Associate’s Degree from HACC. Stephanie enjoys singing, shopping, reading and spending time with her family.

SCHOOL - AGE
Sally Runkle has been with Hansel & Gretel since 1995 and has taught children from ages 3 through 6. She is currently our Kindergarten teacher. She graduated from Shippensburg University (summa cum laude) with a B.S. degree in Education. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her family, gardening, singing, church activities and roller skating. Sally strongly believes there is no better profession than education; helping children grow and learn academically, physically, socially, and emotionally. Sally has been recognized at Hansel & Gretel with a Team Player Award.
Stephanie Poorman has been with Hansel & Gretel for eight years. She earned a Bachelor Degree in Elementary and Special Education from Kutztown University. Currently, Stephanie is enrolled in Penn State University’s Graduate Degree Program. Inspired by her Great Aunt Sally, who worked with special needs children and adults, Stephanie knew at an early age that she wanted to work with children. Since starting with Hansel & Gretel she and has worked with children of all ages; especially focusing on older preschool children. Stephanie enjoys singing, painting, reading and sharing her love for art with her students.
Shaina Bridges joined our program in 2006 as a high school co-op student. She graduated from HACC with an Associates Degree in Early Childhood/Elementary Education. Along the way, Shaina also attained her Child Development Associate degree. She has worked with children of all ages during her years at Hansel & Gretel and has also become the mother of three children. Shaina enjoys spending time with her children, reading, and going to the beach. She is kind and nurturing; and believes every child should be treated with the love, kindness, and patience that we would want our own children to be treated.
Nancy Daniels has worked at Hansel & Gretel for 25 years and was the first employee to be hired when our Infant-Toddler center was opened in 1990. She is the first person to greet you as you enter our building each morning. She loves working with children and enjoying each and every one of them as they go through the various stages of growth and development. As our center floater, Nancy gets to follow them as they grow from year to year. Nancy enjoys playing games on the computer, reading, and spending time with her family.
Karen Robinson has attained a Child Development Associate Degree and is currently taking early childhood classes at HACC. Karen has worked at Hansel & Gretel for 15 years; primarily in our Infant-Toddler classrooms. She is passionate about children and enjoys working with children of all ages. Karen was voted”Employee of the Month in 2011” and is known at the center for being sweet, kind-hearted and always wearing a smile. In her spare time, she enjoys singing, cooking and decorating.
